The FRA's crossing team has been instrumental in promoting technologies designed to improve safety. Engineering designs and modifications of crossing systems can improve the safety peformance of grade crossings.

From providing guidelines for traffic control devices at crossings, to developing the Rails With Trails report, the crossing team has worked with other governmental agencies and private-sector industries to prevent injuries and deaths.
