Tupelo - MS Rail Line Relocation

FRA and the Mississippi Department of Transportation are currently preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) analyzing the effects of relocating the BSNF Railway Company main line that currently runs through the city of Tupelo, Mississippi. The purpose of the study is to improve mobility and safety by reducing roadway congestion caused by the movement of trains running through Tupelo, especially at the intersection of Main Street and Gloster Street. On May 10, 2011, FRA signed the Draft EIS. FRA and MDOT have scheduled a public hearing on the Draft EIS for August 11, 2011, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the BancorpSouth Arena in Tupelo. Additional information on the hearing as well as instructions for submitting comments on the Draft EIS can be found here. FRA and MDOT received comments until September 12, 2011.
