The Federal Railroad Administration Passenger train traveling through New England, autumn
landscape.

An Environmental Assessment (EA) and 4(f) evaluation was prepared in conjunction with the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority for the Downeaster Portland North Expansion Project.  The FRA issued a Final EA and 4(f) evaluation on June 30, 2009 and a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) on July 1, 2009.  The Environmental Assessment considers the potential environmental impacts of extending the Downeaster passenger rail service on an existing freight rail line from Portland to Brunswick in Cumberland County Maine. FRA determined that the project would not have a significant adverse impact on the quality of the human and natural environment.
