The Virginia-North Carolina Interstate High-Speed Rail Commission, created during the 2001 legislative sessions of the General Assemblies of both North Carolina and Virginia, is composed of state legislators exploring the benefits, costs, and required legislative actions needed to establish high-speed rail services on the Virginia-North Carolina portions of the Southeast Corridor.
The Commission is conducting bi-monthly meetings, alternating between Richmond, VA and Raleigh, NC, to gather data and prepare reports.
Funding will be used to study the feasibility of high-speed rail service in the draft report of the preliminary findings and a final report with recommendations to be submitted to the General Assemblies of both states.
The total estimated for-dollar non-federal match.
