Q-1. “How is the S&TC Division structured and how many personnel are involved?”

A. The S&TC Division is provided technical guidance by a staff director located in the Washington D.C. headquarters. The director currently has five S&TC specialists and two electronic engineers on his staff. The Safety Improvement and Development Team (SIDT) has one S&TC training specialist responsible for training nationwide. Each of FRA’s eight regional offices has one S&TC supervisory specialist that works for the respective Regional Administrator. Each S&TC supervisory specialist supervises from six to nine Federal S&TC safety inspectors. Additionally, there are approximately 24 State inspectors across the country also involved in S&TC compliance.
