Magnetic Levitation Projects Grant Program FY 2015

Overview: 

The Magnetic Levitation Projects Grant Program provides $27.8 million for preconstruction planning activities and capital costs of viable, existing magnetic levitation projects. See the 2015 Notice of Funding Availability for more information.

Legislative Authority: 

Sections 1101(a)(18) and 1307 of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA–LU, Public Law 109–59 (August 10, 2005)), as amended by section 102 of the SAFETEA–LU Technical Corrections Act of 2008, Public Law 110–244 (June 6, 2008).

Amount: 

$27.8 million

Eligible Projects:

The projects must:

  • Involve a segment or segments of a high-speed ground transportation corridor;
  • Result in an operating transportation facility that provides a revenue producing service; and
  • Be approved by the Secretary based on an application submitted to the Secretary by a state or authority designated by one or more states.

With respect to the second criterion, funding was made available for the deployment of magnetic levitation projects.
