The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for the Long Bridge Project jointly with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT). The Long Bridge Project consists of potential improvements to the Long Bridge and related railroad infrastructure located between the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Crystal City Station in Arlington, Virginia and the Virginia Interlocking near 3rd Street SW in Washington, DC (the Long Bridge Corridor).
The existing two-track Long Bridge is owned and operated by CSX Transportation (CSXT), a Class I freight railroad, which also operates the Long Bridge Corridor. In addition to CSXT freight, the bridge is also currently utilized by Amtrak and VRE.
FRA encourages and anticipates public participation throughout the development and evaluation of the Project. The FRA website on the Long Bridge Project will be updated periodically with project milestones, information about additional public meetings, and other pertinent project information. Comments may be submitted through this website by visiting the comments section and/or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your interest and participation in this important transportation project.
The U.S. Permitting Dashboard is an online tool for Federal agencies, project sponsors, and interested members of the public to track the Federal government’s environmental review and authorization processes for large or complex infrastructure projects. The Dashboard is part of a government-wide effort to improve coordination, transparency, and accountability. A link to this project’s page on the Dashboard is below.
