Chris Hess joined the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) as the Director of Government Affairs in April 2017. In this role, Mr. Hess is the principal advisor to FRA leadership on legislative affairs, government relations, and serves as the primary liaison to federal, state, and local governmental entities.
Prior to joining the FRA, Mr. Hess was the Director of Public Relations and Government Affairs at the Forest Resources Association in Washington, D.C.. In this role, he developed the association's policy positions and strategies for advancing legislative initiatives on Capitol Hill. Through his work he coordinated efforts with industry government relations teams, coalitions, working groups, and congressional offices. In addition to his private sector experience, Mr. Hess has significant experience working in Congress as a Senior Legislative Assistant for Congressman Steve Chabot where he managed the Congressman’s committee assignments and the development of transportation policy among other legislative initiatives.
Mr. Hess holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Xavier University, a Master of Arts in Government from Regent University, and a MBA from American University.
