ABSTRACT: A finite element structural analysis model for conventional railway track support systems (CRTSS) has previously been developed. This study includes parameter studies and sensitivity analyses conducted using the structural model to establish the effects of various parameters on the "instantaneous-elastic" response of CTRSS. The parameters studied are ballast (type and depth), subballast (type and depth), subgrade support conditions, rail size, ties (spacing and width), wheel loading, missing ties and tie type. The parameter study indicates that ballast type and rail size do not signifcantly effect "instantaneous-elastic" response of CTRSS, while subballast (stabilized), subgrade support condition and wheel loading are some of the major parameters that affect the "instantaneous-elastic" response of the CTRSS.
