ABSTRACT: The objective of this investigation was to support previous (1993) on-track testing and analystical modeling to further determine the effect of side bearing clearance in the presence of various secondary suspension configurations on high c.g. cars. Further parameters investigated were track gage, wheel/rail coefficient of friction, secondary spring stiffness, and the effect of hydraulic damping. All vehicle configurations were simulated using various track input amplitudes. Prior to modeling, a preliminary review of all test data was conducted to obtain a better understanding of the overall test results and to help in the direction of the modeling effort.
