ABSTRACT: Four 11-month system concept definition (SCD) studies, totaling more than $8.6 million, were awarded in late October 1991 to determine the technical feasibility, performance, capital, operating and maintenance costs for a maglev system that would be available by the year 2000. Due to the extensive nature of the final reports, the limitations on distribution of proprietary information and the difficulty of presenting consistent detailed cost and performance information it was decided not to publish all of the material delivered under these- SCn" contracts. This compendium of Executive Summaries of the SCD Final Reports presents the essence of the studies representing the information supplied to the US Government as part of its evaluation of the potential of maglev as a future transportation system.
