ABSTRACT: The major objective of this study was the development of a battery of tests for predicting an applicant's potential success for the job of locomotive engineer. The locomotive engineer’s job is very demanding and requires skills, knowledge, and aptitudes for the effective and reliable handling of the train. The consequences of error in the engineer's job are high, both in loss of life and destruction of equipment. Improper train handling can lead to delays, cargo damage, derailment, and collusions.
