ABSTRACT: The Federal Railroad Administration and Association of American Railroads (AAR) sponsored a program to validate new techniques for the analysis and testing of safety and track worthiness aspects of new freight cars and suspension designs. The program involved subjecting a lightweight aluminum coal gondola to laboratory tests, on-track tests, and simulation of tests using a computer model as required by AAR Specification M-1001, Chapter XI.
