ABSTRACT: The recent railroad electrification feasibility study of the Conrail line segment from Harrisburg to Pittsburgh is reviewed in this report. Approach to design and operational strategy are discussed. A summary of costs and units for various investment and cost items is presented, escalated into 1980 dollars. Of particular interest to the reader are the comments regarding the more general application of the methodology and cost figures to subsequent railroad electrification studies. In most cases, both methodology and cost figures have wider application and are so identified. Those factors which are site-specific, or in other ways unique are also identified.
