ABSTRACT: Development of a signal/control system for high speed 255 Km/h (160 MPH) train operation must proceed in a logical sequence. One step is a comparison of alternative candidate systems representing state-of-the-art technology. This report presents a functional specification with which to measure the utility of selected candidates. Requirements are organized to permit growth from basic cab signaling to total, monitoring and control from a single point. A functional path has been taken in order to provide the widest latitude in hardware design.
