ABSTRACT: [From Overview] The effort on this project was divided into three phases. The purpose of Phase I was to investigate several railroad accidents that were attributed to poor train handling. The results of this investigation were used to establish a potentially difficult train handling scenario to be utilized on the Evaluator. In Phase II a 35mm motion picture film that closely approximates the accident scenario developed in Phase I was procured, and track geometry and audio cues data bases that relate to the film were generated. The purpose of Phase III was to map a "core film" of approximately 1.5 hours to be used on the Evaluator.
