ABSTRACT: Earth materials - i.e. soil and rock - form the substructure of all railroad track. In this report a summary and assessment is presented with respect to current and available practices for substructure (ballast, subballast, and subgrade) materials evaluation and selection, stabilization, design and analysis, and performance evaluation. More detailed discussions of this information are presented in the previous two reports of this study entitled "Ballast and Subgrade Requirements Study: Railroad Track Substructure - Materials Evaluation and Stabilization Practices" and "...Railroad Track Substructure - Design and Performance Evaluation Practices." Recommendations for future research requirements for the track substructure are also presented herein.
