ABSTRACT: Noise is a major concern when any new transportation source is introduced into the existing surface transportation network. Maglev will be no exception. Despite the perception that there will be no problem in comparison with other noisy sources, such as diesel-hauled passenger and freight trains, it is worth investigating the potential of a noise problem early enough in the process that mitigation, if necessary, can be implemented during the design.
