ABSTRACT: On April 30, 2014, at 1:54 p.m., EST, CSX Transportation (CSX) unit crude oil train, K08227, traveling eastbound from Clifton Forge, Virginia, to Yorktown, Virginia derailed on the James River Subdivision. The derailment occurred on Number 2 track at Milepost (MP) CAB 146.45. The train was traveling at a recorded speed of 24 miles per hour. CSX Train K08227 was a unit crude oil train consisting of 2 locomotives, 1 loaded buffer car, and 104 loaded tank cars with a total length of 6,426 feet, and having 14,107 trailing tons.
