ABSTRACT: This report presents the results of the Federal Railroad Administration's comprehensive examination of railroad passenger safety in response to section 702 of the Rail Safety and Service Improvement Act 1982. Rail passenger service in the United States has compiled a superior safety record that can be attributed to the rail industry's operational and safety practices as well as the effect of FRA's extensive safety regulations. To enhance that record, FRA is undertaking several rail passenger safety initiatives
