ABSTRACT: On May 13, 2016, at approximately 12:32 p.m., PDT, westbound Amtrak Passenger Train No. 713, traveling at a recorded speed of 79 mph on BNSF Railway’s (BNSF) main line track, struck a motor vehicle at a private highway-rail grade crossing near the city of Madera, California. As a result of the collision, three occupants of the motor vehicle were fatally injured and four of the 211 passengers on the train were injured. There were no reported injuries to Amtrak’s train crew.
