ABSTRACT: On February 3, 2015, at 6:26 p.m., EST, in Valhalla, New York, northbound Metro-North Railroad (MNCW) Passenger Train Number 659 (the Train) consisting of eight electric-powered M-7 passenger cars struck a 2011 Mercedes Benz ML350 SUV (the SUV) at the Commerce Street Grade Crossing on MNCW’s Harlem line. The collision resulted in a fire to the SUV and the lead passenger car, Car MNCW 4333. The lead car was carrying an estimated 20 passengers at the time of the accident and there were five passenger fatalities, all in the first car. The driver of the SUV was also fatally injured.
